CARPEL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition caused by compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel, a narrow passageway in the wrist. The median nerve controls sensation and movement in the thumb, index, middle, and half of the ring finger. When the tunnel becomes compressed or inflamed, it irritates the nerve, leading to symptoms.

Physiotherapy is an effective treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome by combining many treatments:

  1. Manual Therapy

  • Soft Tissue Mobilization: Massage techniques to reduce tension in the wrist and forearm muscles.

  • Nerve Gliding Techniques: Gentle movements to help the median nerve slide more freely within the carpal tunnel.

  • Joint Mobilization: Improves wrist flexibility and releases restrictions.

  1. Stretching Exercises

Targeted stretches relieve tension in the wrist, hand, and forearm.

  1. Strengthening Exercises

Strengthen muscles in the wrist, hand, and forearm to support the carpal tunnel.

  1. Electrotherapy

  • Ultrasound Therapy: Reduces inflammation and promotes tissue healing in the carpal tunnel.

  • TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation): Provides pain relief by blocking nerve signals.

  1. Heat and Cold Therapy

  • Cold Therapy: Reduces swelling and inflammation during flare-ups.

  • Heat Therapy: Relaxes tight muscles and promotes circulation.
